Mechatronics can be seen as integration of exact mechanics, electrical engineering and electronics with intelligent computer control. This is what makes it attractive as in today’s engineering, there is no modern product, let alone a technical system, that does not contain both basic electromechanical (hydraulic, pneumatic etc.) structure and electronic control systems. These complex technical systems, from the beginning designed as an interactive whole, produce a synergic effect, which means that the final product has much better properties than a mere “total” of positive properties of the individual subsystems of different types.
At Brno University of Technology, mechatronics is tought by the Institute of Solid Mechanics, Mechatronics and Biomechanics together with the Institute of Automation and Computer Science in cooperation with the Department of Power Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication. It is an interfaculty study where lectures are given by experts from several institutes of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Computer classrooms and laboratories of both the faculties are available. In addition, the HBO and Bruel&Kjar Vibro significant European companies are represented in the structure of the Institute of Solid Mechanics, Mechatronics and Biomechanics, which allows the students and postgraduate students to become familiar with the most modern testing and laboratory technology and software products for processing measurement results.
